About Malden Bowmen

Our Club has been in existence for half a century, providing the opportunity for people of all ages1 and both sexes to enjoy the sport of Archery. We welcome both practising archers and beginners, and we have experienced and qualified instructors who make sure that beginners have a sound grounding in the essentials of shooting in the bow, and help them thereafter to progress in the sport. A course of 6 lessons for beginners is available - see Interested in Joining?.

Although we are mainly a target archery club, we also shoot Clout occasionally and some members also shoot Field. Many of our members shoot not only the modern bow, but also the traditional Longbow - see Types of Archery.

Our club is situated at the Kings College Sports Extension Ground, New Malden Contact Us. We teach beginners at our practice sessions on Saturday mornings, we also shoot every Sunday (timings vary according to season). In 2006 we have been also shooting at the ground on Wednesday evenings during the summer. Some members also practice at another indoor facility during the week.

Our Club is affiliated to the main archery organisations in the country: ~ The Grand National Archery Society2 ~ The Southern Counties Archery Society ~ The County of Surrey Archery Association ~ The Association for Archery in Schools

Tournaments
Numerous outdoor and indoor tournaments throughout the year are an important part of the sport for those of a more competitive nature. Nevertheless, club and recreational archery is just as important for people who find they have little time for any serious commitment, but still enjoy 'shooting' arrows with friends, family or colleagues in the familiar surroundings of their club.

In the summer we have a programme of face-to-face friendly matches against other clubs in the County.

During the winter we participate in postal competitions in the County and nationwide.

Many members also enter archery tournaments, both indoor and outdoor, around the country.

Notes

1 Children under 18 can only become members if a parent is already a member.

2 The Grand National Archery Society (GNAS) is the recognised governing body for all forms of archery in the United Kingdom and is currently responsible for approximately 20,000 members. The GNAS is affiliated to the International Archery Federation (FITA) and is a member of the British Olympic Association. The Sports Council is also involved, generously providing valuable assistance with the Society's long-term plans.
